Discovering Your Personal Style

Style is super personal. What you love is what you love and that’s the most important thing. When we talk about style, we use words that are very industry driven terms like Minimalism, Neo Classical, Contemporary, Modern, Traditional, Scandinavian or Bohemian. But all these styles are really just a mix of some basic elements. Most of us don’t fall particularly into one style category. Rather, we all tend to have a slight mix of interests. We all have so many different inputs and sources of inspiration in our lives when it comes to style—from our parents or grandparents’ styles, pop culture, places you’ve travelled, along with all the beautiful images you see on Instagram and Pinterest. All those things influence what you are attracted to and what you love. So, we want to show you how to merge it all into one space.

Now, let’s dive into these basic elements and spectrums of interior design, explore how they come to life in a space, and help you figure out your own personal style.

EMPTY vs FULL

While referring to an emptier space, you might like a more minimalistic, contemporary style. And if you’re leaning more to a fuller space in terms of furniture or decorative items with bold colors and patterns you might like Bohemian style better! As most of us don’t fall on either extreme, adding a floral wallpaper in a minimalistic space or going for a more earthy single-color carpet in a room with lots of color and furniture can help balance the space to your liking!

OLD vs NEW

When we refer to old, Are you leaning more towards a more Traditional, Vintage vibe or something new with a modern, contemporary feel. But there is always an in between, you could have a single statement traditional piece in your living room or have a more minimalistic console with a slightly more vintage carved leg.

FORMAL vs CASUAL

This is pretty self-explanatory, would you rather have your space more formal with a classical, traditional style. Or would you prefer a more relaxed, casual feel to your space. This does not have to carry into every space in your home, but can help you decide on the colors and types of furniture for either type.

ORGANIC vs FABRICATED

This refers more to the materials, shapes, furniture and décor used in a space. If you prefer a more organic feel, materials such as wooden furniture, earthy colored carpets, and perhaps exposed brick patterns will help achieve that look! For a more Fabricated look we are looking at metal legs, or perhaps a more industrial feel to the place.

SAFE vs ADVENTEROUS

If you are someone who prefers more neutral colors or lean more towards our traditional forms of design, you would be happy with a safe design. On the safe side are design styles like contemporary, modern, and Scandinavian (proof that safe can absolutely be stylish and beautiful). If you are someone looking for a more adventurous vibe, you would lean more towards bold colors and patterns.

These are just a few areas to think about to narrow down your style and personal preference! How ever you prefer your space to look like make sure that it’s not influenced by the trends of today. Your space has to be a beautiful blend of all your experiences from your childhood and growing up to ensure your space always feels like home and not too different from what you’re used to, And what you want to be, ensuring to include all your futuristic needs and comforts!
